Laura Baron is a cinematographer and camera assistant based in Naarm/Melbourne, known for translating rich, character driven narratives into tangible lived worlds. Her love of visual storytelling began through photography and naturally developed into film, across her studies in Fine Arts (Bachelor of Photography) and a Diploma of Screen and Media at RMIT.
Laura’s work centres around stories of human experience, using image to connect emotional truth and physical space.
Guided by a balance of intuition and technical precision with a strong foundation in camera and on-set practice, she values problem-solving as a creative tool. Across short films and promotional work she is committed to fostering safe, considered spaces for everyone on set.
Her visual approach is marked by an attention to detail and use of the camera as an observer within the stories she captures. The result being images that feel intimate, known, and responsive to character. She preferences motivated, natural lighting to embed scenes with a sense of realism and comfort.
Laura’s short film work has been screened at The Geelong Pride Film Festival and the PayPal Melbourne Fasion Festival.
For Laura, filmmaking is both craft and privilege: a continuation of the curiosity that began the moment she picked up her first camera.
